The Art of Strategic Communication

In today’s climate, many industries are in vulnerable positions with pressure mounting to ensure that every part of a company’s communications strategy is generating tangible results and that systems implemented are evolving alongside the commercial landscape to maximise financial return. An effective communications strategy can be a significant game changer in times of economic turbulence.

Understanding the needs of a business and its audiences, both internal and external, ensures communication outputs have well-devised, effective messaging that resonates and translates through all elements of a business.

Background

As Managing Director of a pan-regional PR agency for almost two decades, Faye Binns supports clients from across the UK and Europe to achieve their communications aspirations.

Whether it’s for global organisations with multiple communications teams internally and externally, or smaller businesses with individual appointed representatives, Faye can expertly review and analyse both target and existing systems to provide a streamlined approach that maximises budget and output. This can be on a one-off review basis or as a long-term consultant to the business.

Approach

As your Communications Strategist, Faye will evaluate your current communications strategy, delivery team and processes to assess its effectiveness before going on to develop a detailed plan for achieving success for your business.

This will enable your organisation to identify and implement an effective strategy that works across all aspects of the business and its communications outputs including marketing, public relations and social media.

Whether you need a new strategy establishing, or are a larger organisation utilising several external agencies across PR, marketing, branding and design disciplines alongside an internal team, Faye can review your approach and deliver key insights to provide rigor and structure to communications plans.

Advice can be given on multiple projects, clients and new business prospects to give ideas and extra dimension to drive innovation and create confidence in the strategy in place.

Faye will work with you to identify:

  • What is and isn’t working and why with regards to your current communications strategy
  • Whether existing communications processes are still useful to the business
  • How to adapt existing communications processes and/or make new ones
  • A clear and identifiable purpose for a new communications strategy
  • Comprehensive and measurable communications strategy objectives with evaluation
  • Successful collaborations between different stakeholders within the business
  • Management of communications risks and how to mitigate them

The Eight Steps of a Successful Communications Strategy

  1. Gain a deep understanding of client services and objectives
  2. Evaluate current comms strategy in light of an evolving commercial landscape
  3. Agree key messages
  4. Stakeholder mapping (including engagement and in turn involvement in bringing forward the new comms strategy)
  5. Audiences (including employee engagement)
  6. Define new communications objectives and generate techniques to make communications more effective
  7. Communication channel mapping (identify opportunities to engage and those being missed)
  8. Final Strategy

How It Works

An initial scoping call will be held to evaluate your current communications output, business goals and ascertain the scale of works and level of support required.

Once the project has been agreed, an audit process will take place incorporating virtual meetings with relevant stakeholders.

The works will culminate in a report of recommendations including a detailed project plan and timeline to deliver your communications goals.

Following the report, a decision can be made on further support to implement the plan and undertake monitoring.
